The Mighty V Biography

The Mighty V - Improvisational Comedy Songs

How it all started

When I first arrived at WRQC back in the fall of 2001, my primary objective was to reform my band "The Killer Kona Buds" and begin to record new comedy and parody songs for the show. I was fairly new to the market, and the initial response to my solicitation for new musicians was pathetic. Many guitarists were ready to sign up, but I couldn't get a bass player or a drummer to save my life.

So, I thought, "Screw It". I'll grab my acoustic guitar and try and come up with stuff without a band.

The Idea

The original idea was simple, let the Bob Narley Show listeners come up with a crazy title to a new song, then within an hour each member of the show would write down one verse of lyrics, based on that title. I would come up with some original music on the guitar and drum sampler. We then would perform the piece, unrehearsed, live over the air, before the end of that days show, with each member or guest singing their own verse. Not exactly a great way to get quality product, but a worthy challenge.

The Name

The idea was sound, but the project needed a name, something worthy of it's irreverence and bad taste. Thus, The Mighty V was born. The "V" stands for vagina. It's all about the "v", isn't it?

The songs

Our first song was "Stinky Pinky Pie". The recording was horrible. The guitar wasn't electric and had to be mic'd up to be heard. Jack did a great job with the lyrics, especially since he was considered the voice of reason. All in all, it was funny, irreverent, disgusting, and a hit.

Since then the titles have changed, but the objective hasn't. The band has included the talents of; Jack from the same show, Wookie foot johnny Wad, Nitlow, Puck, Gator, Cleatus, Only one hand Canolli, Rodger, and a couple of others who'm my short term memory totally forgot.

Today

Today, I'm all that's left of the V. She eats them up, and spits them back out. I'm the lone survivor. I will continue on, I must, The V must go on!

Note:

All of the Mighty V MP3's were originally recorded live on the crappy studio cassette deck that was attached to the studio console at the radio station. The cassette deck was horrible, and would not record the right levels or mix of vocals to guitar, not that it matters much. You'll hear hiss, pops, drop outs, and lots of bad singing (lots). Many of the older V songs are missing, but were working on it. Due to bandwidth issues and download times we encoded the original audio to 64kbps @ 44,100 Hz Mono. Which would make it about FM Quality at best. Share them with your friends, burn them to CD, I really don't care, however they are not licensed for Broadcast.

Enjoy!
